These are calla lily shaped stick incense burners. I created this design because I needed a stick incense burner that fit on a windowsill and caught all of the ashes every time. The tall, narrow lily form works very nicely for this, and I love that the incense stick looks like the stamen of the lily.
Each incense lily is a wheelthrown and altered vessel. The incense lilies in the photos are more of a grey, but I switched over to a bright white porcelain recently and haven’t photographed any made with the new clay yet. Any lilies made from here on out will be a bright white with a satin white glaze until I am ready to add more color options.
To use, carefully insert the stick of incense into the burner and light it up. As the stick burns, the ashes fall into the base. Once the stick burns out, and all that’s left is the little bamboo core piece, pick the lily up, and the small stick will fall out of the hole in the bottom. The ashes can be rinsed out with water.
